Whats ‘Laminated Skin?

It's hard to keep up with the plethora of creative beauty trends every fashion week. While they are all incredibly Instagram-worthy, many of them can feel a little adventurous for everyday use. Take, for example, the gold leaf bronzer, which is just as sparkly but may not look like you imagine when you go out with friends.

So far this season it's all about the skin. In particular, keeping it relatively free, but seriously increasing its sensitivity. It seems we are graduating from the glass-glass school (too glamorous and expensive, thanks to all the classes). Instead, London Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2023 makeup artists are touting another trend for glowing skin, and this one is perhaps the easiest to show off.

Enter: "covered in skin".

At this year's Fashion East show, Mac's art director and senior makeup artist Terry Barber explained that plump skin is "the next level of glow" and ... mimics sweat.

"The skin is sweaty this season, which is not a disadvantage now," Terry told Refinery29. "All the designers I work with talk about wet skin like I just stepped out of the ocean on vacation or went to the dance floor - or just had sex." Terry says that highlighters aren't the only things that can characterize blushes or shimmery powder finishes. Instead, it's about using creamy products to create a "highly moisturizing" and "layered" foundation.

Terry Barber, MAC makeup director

Terry and his team of professionals, including the professional artist from the Moss Emin team, used the Mac Studio Radiance Face and Body Radiant Sheer Foundation. Terry told R29: “I've used it a lot and the more I wear it the better my face and body. It takes it and makes the skin smooth. The second step is a generous shade of Mac Fix + Magic Radiance, wet Terry said: "This baby is the key to the whole show." When we put on makeup, we painted the models' faces on top of Magic Glow and let them absorb. "encapsulated shine" and gives a dewy matte appearance. Makeup artists spray fog everywhere. He says to Terry, "I'm not afraid to turn it on in the middle of the forehead or on the nose." cloudy, light and very humid.

Pale cream contour or, in this case, an eyeshadow tint: MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pots were based on the model's skin tone. Terry described the virtues of Groundwork and its textures because they are two natural skin tones that can be high or low depending on your skin tone.

"I created an invisible contour to create sculpted cheekbones," says Terry, Grace Jones-Way cheekbone skater. Applying the same shade on a heavy eyeshadow brush created what Terry calls a "little dot" around the eyes to shape the face. "Natural fashion is important right now, but this makeup is more about emotion than big affirmation," says Terry.

Don't worry if your skin is prone to acne or has an uneven texture. Bright and plump skin for everyone, customize your products. Avoid a greasy foundation and opt for a light moisturizing gel beforehand, such as Facetheory Supergel Moisturizer M3 for oily and acne-prone skin, Omega Water Cream Moisturizer from Inkey List, or Ole Henriksen Cold Plunge Pore Remedy Moisturizer (the latest we have seen) at the beginning of the day. . On the back (Paul Costello).

"Whenever I have problematic or uneven skin, I completely avoid cooling powders," advises Terry. "The Fix + spray is great for you because it contains essential oils that leave a nice film when moisture penetrates, giving you a smooth shine." In comparison, a product containing chickpea particles can build up around the texture of the skin. "This trick creates a glow," says Terry.

Sealed skin is also great news for oily skin as there is no need to use the powder or reapply the product throughout the day. The natural oils on the face will add a radiant and plump effect. "We live in an age where you let makeup absorb instead of filling it in," says Terry. “Nobody wants a lot of density. It happens naturally on the skin, ”she continues, her gaze evoking images of models walking in the rainforest, leaving the sauna or heading to the spa.

We're sure Terry won't be the last makeup artist to focus on radiant faces. Any trend consisting of a few products, does not need to be refilled and is able to protect oily skin will have our vote.
