With 80% (or more) of us wearing the wrong bra, a new study uncovers concerns other than imperfect fit.
British lingerie brand Pour Moi has published results showing that a bad bra can lead to poor posture, back pain and sagging. This may be the reason for the thousands of memes about women who take off their bra at the end of the day and make fun of them (or not?).
According to the NY Post, the company surveyed more than 1,000 women and found that 91% of them didn't have a proper bra and 10% of them wore bras over 6 years old, meaning they may have been stretching. the outside

The most common problem women reported was rubbing or touching the skin, which can lead to skin irritation, acne, and fungal infections.
According to the survey, the second and third most common "Brahmil" were scrapes on the shoulder from puncture wounds.
This can happen when the weight of the bra and gravity force the bra to slide forward, causing the belt to move backwards, pushing the tape over your shoulders and leaving marks.
The bra company has also released a shocking graphic of a woman named Melanie, wearing an oversized bra and sleeping uncomfortably with the excruciating red appearance of strap wrinkles, back pain and stretch marks.
So, if you're one of the millions of women who actually suffer from these symptoms, is there anything you can do to fix them?
Kristen Bernkey, MHA, FNP-C, a nurse practitioner who lives in Cat Skills..., New York, illustrates. "So for women, a bra that fits well and pushes your shoulders back will help you stand more straight. And actually be aware of your posture."
Bernke says that stretching and applying a warm compress to the area can help relieve back pain caused by breasts.
What if you are still not sure if this applies to you? In my book The Bra Book, 2nd Edition, I outline the following signs that you might be wearing the wrong bra:
- I emptied the glasses. This distance between the top of the cup and the breast tissue may indicate that your breasts are too large.
- A wire and/or front strap that stays away from your body. This usually happens when a cup that is too small is used.
- Your team takes a back seat. It is said that 90% of bra support comes from the bracelet, so the size of the strap is very important. If it's not completely horizontal behind you, it may be too big. You will also be able to slide just two fingers under the back bar. If you pull the belt completely away from your body, it will be too large.
- Tape slips. Unlike the holes in the straps above are the ones that slip, which could mean your chest is too big or stretched out and it's time to say sayonara.
- If the rope is sticking out of the fabric or is wrinkled, the cups are frayed, or the fabric looks taut, it's time to get rid of it and find a new one.
