Any skincare enthusiast knows that a nighttime routine is key to glowing skin. While I don't mind slathering on serums and sunscreens during the day, this is an appetizer for the molten lava cake that is a night serum. Why does laundry feel good at the end of the day?
Why should you use a night cream every day?
Well, like any other part of the body, sleep is a time when your skin heals, regenerates, regenerates and gives that pink donut look we all crave. "Nighttime skincare aims to heal and repair, while morning skincare aims to protect and prevent damage," says expert dermatologist Maria Tempera. "An effective night cream will have a thick, rich consistency and will contain active ingredients such as retinol or AHAs to increase cell turnover, treat and prevent fine lines and wrinkles, improve texture and tone, and more."

What ingredients should be seen in the night cream?
According to Dr. Temper, here are some ingredients to look for in a night cream:
- Retinol: Stimulates collagen production and fights acne.
- Peptides: which help with skin elasticity
- Chemical exfoliants: Contains alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) to promote cell renewal, skin tone and texture, stimulate collagen production and give skin a radiant glow.
- Ceramides: Lipids (also known as fats) that help retain moisture by forming a protective layer.
- Glycerin: Helps to moisturize and hydrate the skin.
- Hyaluronic Acid: Holds up to 1000 times its weight in water, helping to lock in moisture.
When to apply night cream in your daily routine?
Dr. Tiffany Libby, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon, recommends this line for nighttime skin care. "Before using your night cream, apply active ingredients such as serums that address your skin's concerns, brighten, hydrate or reduce signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles," she says. - The subsequent application of a night cream helps to further stimulate these actions and increase their effectiveness. Night cream is usually the last step in your evening skin care routine, she says.
