Ford Field will have a new field for the 2023 season. The Lions plan to install new CORE monolith turf next month, which will be safer and better than the split film at Ford Field starting in 2019.
"We've been talking about it. It's been in the works for a while," Campbell said Friday. "(Team president) Rod (Wood) was talking about weeds and this and that before anything happened. We decided -- (owners) Sheila (Hump) and Rod something." They are determined to succeed. We know we can't get weed, we're the home team. So get the highest rated weed we can get. .
Campbell said the decision was made in the interest of player safety and shows the owner's commitment that the spending will not affect player safety.
"I think that's another reason it's a good place," Campbell said. "When you have an owner who is ready for anything - and that starts with the players - that's what you think about. I think it's very good.
Linebacker Romeo Okvara has been awarded the 2022 Ed Block Courage Award by the Detroit Lions.
The Ed Block Courage Award is presented to a Lions player who demonstrates sportsmanship or injury and/or excels on the field.
"Romeo will be dealing with a season-ending Achilles injury for the 2021 regular season," Lions coach Kevin Bastin said. "He has had many obstacles and challenges in his recovery, but his work ethic and positive attitude have been essential in getting him through the process and back on the field. Romeo is a true professional and truly deserves this award as we close out the 2022 regular season."
Campbell was slated to fall Friday because Deshawn Elliott did not return to the lineup Sunday after missing the last two games with a shoulder injury.
