There are so many creams, serums and treatments that will make your skin look smoother and more radiant. But there is another quick, easy and inexpensive procedure that you may have forgotten about: dermaplaning.
What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning, also known as dermablading or microplaning, is a cosmetic procedure that uses a scalpel or dermatome at a 45-degree angle to remove the top layer of dead skin, explains Michelle Greene, MD, a New York-based cosmetic dermatologist. City. "The purpose of dermaplaning is to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz, also known as vellus hair."
Dermaplaning removes the dull top layer, leaving skin smoother and more radiant. In addition, this type of exfoliation allows skin care products such as vitamin C, retinol, and hyaluronic acid to penetrate deeper for maximum benefit. Many also find that makeup application is smoother after dermaplaning because it has a better texture.
How to do dermaplaning at home?
The process is generally very safe if you do it right. First, start by washing your face with a mild cleanser. “Dry skin like clean, dry skin,” says Hadley King, MD, board certified dermatologist. "Pull on the skin to improve the shave and reduce irritation, then use the cold blade at an angle to make short, light strokes in the direction of the hair growth."
After shaving, gently exfoliate dead skin and hair before applying moisturizer. Avoid treatment if you have problems like acne, rosacea, sensitive skin, warts, birthmarks and bumps, as dermaplaning can cause irritation or sores that can lead to infection or scarring, Green explains.
