Dermatology shares the five products she uses every day to keep her skin as clear as possible.
doctor. Suchismita "Tia" Paul, MD, a dermatologist at Newport Beach Dermatology & Plastic Surgery in Orange County, California, told Insider that skincare should be "very personal."
Paul chooses products that help reduce dark spots, like british dermatologist dr. Amna Adel, who tells INSIDER that she chooses moisturizing products for dry skin.
Paul mostly uses talent or office models, but he works for his skin and doesn't pay for a promotion.
Here are Paula's five daily priorities before she adapts her skincare routine to suit her skin needs and the weather.
Gentle cleanser
Paul starts and ends the day by washing his face with a gentle cleanser like Neostrata PHA Restore Facial Cleanser with 4% PHA.
She said the PHA does exfoliate the face, but "very gently."
"I try to focus my skin care on moisturizing and not using a lot of harsh products to protect my skin," she said.
Sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher
Paul says she never skips sunscreen in the morning and always uses a product with SPF 30 or higher to prevent sun damage that can exacerbate dark spots.
Now using Supergoop! Gloscreen SPF 40 because it leaves a "glowing" glow on her skin, or a pressed powder with SPF.
It's important for people of color like her to find a sunscreen that won't leave white marks on the skin, Paul says, like Supergoop. Invisible sunscreen.
She said it didn't matter as long as the product had an SPF of 30 or higher, ideally applied every two hours.
Retinoid cream
Ball says she uses retinol or a topical retinoid every night to treat dark spots and prevent wrinkles.
Retinol is a weak form of retinoid that is derived from Vitamin A. Retinol can be bought over the counter, but stronger retinoids require a prescription.
Paul usually uses La Roche Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% Retinol.
"In terms of efficacy, it has a good balance where it works well but does not irritate the skin," she said.
Paul, who is in his 30s, says that even those without "skin issues" like dark spots can prevent fine lines and wrinkles by using retinol in their mid-20s.
dehumidifier
Since retinol can be drying to skin, Paul says his next step is to "moisturise well," especially in the winter.
One of her favorite products is Kiehl's Advanced Repair Ultra Facial Barrier Cream, which is an intense moisturizer that nourishes and repairs the skin barrier.
You use it in the morning before applying sunscreen and in the evening after using a retinol or retinoid.
Eye contour cream
Not all dermatologists say eye cream is a must, Paul says.
However, she uses an eye cream twice a day to treat and prevent fine lines.
"I'm in my 30s, so I love this hydrating eye cream with hyaluronic acid," she said.
She is currently using products from the dermatology clinic where she works.
