Like this year's Masters, Woods made the cut at Southern Hills but was unable to complete 72 holes.
AUGUSTUS, Ga. - Tiger Woods withdrew from the Masters on Sunday before resuming his third round, citing a recurrence of plantar fasciitis from late last year.
Woods said he underwent several surgeries last year after coming back from a serious car accident in February 2021, and on Sunday, Jason Day revealed the source of one of them.
A screw in his ankle or foot pierced his skin, forcing him to sit out last year's PGA Championship at Southern Hills.
"I spoke to him at the end of last year and he said the reason he was out of the PGA was the lightning that went through his skin on Saturday or whatever it was," Day said after the final round. I don't know how bad it is this time ... again, it's a shame he's not playing here."
Woods tied for 47th at last year's Masters and returned five weeks later at the PGA Championship, where he gathered on Friday, but was hit by the cold and wind in the third round and carded a 78. He withdrew that night and did not play in the US Open .
The cause is most likely related to any of the events described by Dita leading up to the surgery or procedure. Woods then returned in July at the British Open and missed the cut.
Woods was due to play at the Heroes World Championship later this year but withdrew due to plantar fasciitis, which he said had partially developed the day before the match but was also linked to problems with his right foot. .
"I didn't expect to have a few more procedures because of the game, but that's the way it goes," Woods said in December.
Woods played in the Genesis Invitational in February and finished tied for 45th. He accomplished that number at the Masters, tying the record of 23 in a row held by Gary Player and Fred Caples.
He is likely to play next at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill, Rochester, May 18-21. Recent reactions call this into question.
