Mary Kay, the direct selling beauty brand, is rewarding innovation in skin health research with a new grant program.

The company has partnered with the nonprofit European Society for Dermatology Research (ESDR) to award two scientists $20,000 each for their "groundbreaking" research into health and skin diseases.

Mary Kay and ESDR hope these products will support new perspectives and strategies for treating patients with skin and STDs.

dr Michael Kangkrama, principal investigator at the Institute for Molecular Medical Sciences, ETH Zurich, Switzerland, received a grant to support his research into the development and progression of epithelial skin cancer, the most common type of cancer in humans.

dr Clarice Gagnier from the UK, a researcher at the Center for Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine at King's College London, was also recognized for her work on the Human Cell Atlas initiative, a collaborative project that aims to map all cell types in the human body. .

"Mary Kay is committed to advancing skin health and nutrition research around the world, and we know we cannot do this alone," said Dr. Lucy Gildea, director of product and scientific innovation at Mary Kay.

“Collaboration between industry, academia and clinicians is critical. That's why we're proud to partner with ESDR to introduce the first-ever Mary Kay ESDR Dermatology/Health Research Fellowship.

“This grant brings together this extraordinary community in search of new inspiration for the future, and Mary Kay is proud to be a part of this opportunity.
