Traveling is always fun, exciting and full of adventure, but the scorching heat can take a toll on your skin. A new location, new environment, modified diet, and the stresses of travel can all take a toll on your skin. This leads to tiredness, ignorance, poor diet, hectic schedules and changing weather conditions. We spoke to Dr. Anupama Bisaria, MBBS, MD, a dermatologist, who shares skincare steps you should take while traveling.
1. Protect your skin from the sun
Protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun is one of the most important things. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF (at least 50) and a PA+++ rating to protect your skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Don't forget to update the application every three hours, but after 45 minutes of swimming or in case of heavy sweating.
2. Grab hats and scarves
Did you know that your hair burns very quickly in the sun, especially if you have thin hair? So you should wear a hat to protect your head from the sun. This not only prevents heatstroke, but also sunburn and hair loss. Dr. Bisaria recommends wearing thick cotton shorts because they provide a physical barrier in addition to sun protection.
3. Don't skip your regular skin care
Dr. Bisaria says you should be consistent with your skincare regimen and take no breaks even when you travel. But you can skip the alpha-hydroxy (AHA) or beta-hydroxy (BHA) and retinol because exfoliation should be post-grinding. Also avoid chemical peels and pre-vacuum cleansers to protect the dead layer of skin from UV rays. If you're concerned about the weight of your luggage, pack travel bottles for more space.

4. Moisturize
Dull skin can lead to dryness and loss of moisture. So if you want your travel photos to look their best, stay hydrated for glowing skin. If needed, you can bring a face spray or small spray bottle filled with water to refresh your skin.
5. Cover dark circles under eyes with ice
Dark circles under the eyes are very common when traveling. So, if those dark circles are bothering you, try applying an ice pack. This will help relax your eyes and reduce stress and fatigue.
6. Don't touch your face
While traveling, you should definitely avoid touching your face. Helps reduce acne and other skin conditions. The reason for this is the possibility of infection with unknown bacteria which can cause various skin problems. Wash your hands often with antibacterial hand sanitizer or hand sanitizer.
7. Prioritize rest and sleep
While it can be tempting to stay up late and enjoy the conversation, depriving your body of rest while traveling can take a toll on your skin. Try to go to bed on time and create an environment conducive to sleep. Getting enough rest not only rejuvenates your body but also promotes skin cell regeneration and preserves the life of your hair.

8. Focus on your diet
A balanced diet while traveling will go a long way in maintaining healthy skin. This might sound complicated, because who doesn't like eating junk food on the go? However, to combat free radicals caused by sun exposure, include antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables in your diet, such as berries, leafy greens, and citrus fruits. On the other hand, excessive consumption of sugary and processed foods contributes to skin and skin damage.
