Vitiligo is a pigmented skin disease caused by the localized destruction of melanocytes by autoimmune T cells. It is associated with other autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, Addison's disease. Because the eye has melanocytes, it affects the eye and causes uveitis. Vitiligo is not associated with the risk of melanoma.
