These Are The 8 Best Face Masks For Oily Skin

Face masks are loved by the beauty industry for their ability to add radiance and instant hydration. But as every girl with oily skin knows, sometimes that extra glow isn't always appreciated.

So, to help you navigate the world of face masks without making your skin even more oily, we reached out to Erin Gorman, Mecca skincare expert, for some tips. She shares tips and tricks on the best face masks for oily skin.

Why would you add face masks to your skincare routine if you have oily skin?

While Erin admits that oily and greasy skin can be problematic, she tells us that face masks can be the answer to excessive shine and difficult-to-set makeup.

"A deep cleansing and cleansing mask can get rid of the greasy feeling," she says.

"After removing this extra oil, skin can appear more balanced and matte, pores appear smaller, and skin is generally smoother and softer."

Are there certain ingredients that people with oily skin should look out for in face masks?

According to Erin, there are three ingredients that can save your skin when you're suffering from excess oil: kaolin clay, bentonite, and charcoal.

"These pore-cleansing ingredients absorb excess oil and remove impurities from the skin, leaving it balanced and smooth," she says.

She also notes that just because your skin is oily doesn't mean you should stop moisturizing.

In fact, products that strip the skin of its natural oils without adding them can do more harm than good. "When your face is firm and clean, it can encourage your skin to produce more sebum," explains Erin.

Instead, look for lighter, lighter formulas that "feel lighter and deliver the same moisture and nutrients" as richer, heavier formulas.

What ingredients should people with oily skin use for the rest of their skincare routine?

"If you have oily skin, you should look for ingredients that contain niacinamide, which can help balance oil flow, and retinol, which promotes cell renewal and prevents breakouts," says Erin.

And since excess oil can often lead to breakouts, she also suggests adding salicylic acid to your skincare routine to unclog pores, reduce existing breakouts, and prevent breakouts.

Can masks help people with oily skin?

In short, yes. Although it's the skin's job to produce oil, face masks can play an important role in regulating that production, according to Erin.

"Cleansing and deep cleaning give an extra boost for a balanced, matt and smooth finish.

“However, to maintain results, you need to stick to your skincare regimen and treatments. The consistency helps even out oil flow and prevent spotting."
