Jennifer Garner and Sheryl Lee Ralph recently revealed that they use the same method with their partners.
The two actors had an in-depth conversation on the June 10 episode of Variety's "Actors and Actresses."
Garner (51) and Ralph (66) pointed out in an interview that they have a lot in common.
"We have a lot in common," said Garner, an Abbott Elementary star. “With the celebrity and everything, I feel like I'm living a very normal life and I think you feel the same. We also love our children.
The Alias actor agreed: "And that's the problem with fatherhood. It's a gift."
"And we're both divorced," added Ralph.
“They did what I did — they maintained a healthy relationship with my ex to ensure the health and well-being of my children,” Ralph said of his previous marriage.
She said co-parenting with an ex can sometimes be difficult to learn, especially in public. The Moisha actress praised herself and Garner for their success and with her husband for supporting their children.
"When I look at my kids, and I look at you and your kids, I think, 'Ladies, we made it,'" Ralph said.
"We'll do it!", Garner said. He corrected him playfully. before the pair exchanged punches.
Ralph married Eric Morris in 1990. Keeping their romance a secret from the public, she introduced her French fiancé to the world in August 1990 and talked about him in an interview with Jet magazine at the time.
They gave up in 2001. The ex has a 31-year-old son, actor Etienne Morris, and a 28-year-old daughter, stylist Ivy-Victoria Morris.
The siblings recently showed their support for their mom by attending the 16th Annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards in March. They took a photo with him at the event.
The Broadway star is currently married to Senator Vincent Hughes, who represents Pennsylvania's 7th district.
Meanwhile, Garner shares her three children - Violet (17), Seraphina (14) and Samuel (11) - with ex-husband Ben Affleck. The former couple got married in 2005. They announced their separation in 2015 and finalized their divorce in 2018.
On the Apple TV+ show The Last Thing He Said To Me, Garner plays a stepmother who has a strained relationship with her stepson. In an interview with InStyle in April, she explained why landing the role wasn't easy.
"It was very difficult for me to play a character who is not a mother," she said.
During an appearance on April's Today, she talked about how the show, which she calls "The Story of Motherhood," differs from her real-life relationship with her children.
"My teenage children are so cute, so I can't put them in there," she said. "It's a different situation, a different stress, but I know deep shame, yes."
At the "Actors and Actresses" meeting, Ralph and Garner discussed other similarities, such as how they both got their start in theater before moving on to film and television.
They later compared Garner's role as a struggling stepmother on their Apple TV+ series to Barbara Howard's role as the caring Ralph on the ABC comedy.
The 13 Going on 30 star revealed that he has a personal connection to Abbott Elementary and Ralph's character.
“My mom taught remedial English at West Virginia State College,” Garner shared. "He said there should be a comedy show about what happens in the working class." "This is who we are," she said, loving Abbott Elementary.
