NASHVILLE — As the Tennessee Titans wrap up their summer training schedule this week, the conversation will be about player performance, how certain roster battles stack up or who is leaving, but the only thing that really matters is staying healthy as a team. . . .

All the factors that will affect the Titans this season have been discussed. Improve a new attack or improve the line of attack. The other is to return your gear to elite status or improve your defenses. Everything is worth discussing.

However, none of them would mind having the injuries the Giants have suffered over the past two seasons. Player development or changes in the frontcourt will not affect the outcome if the Titans suffer historic injuries again.

In 2021, the Titans led the NFL, setting a league record with 91 players for the entire year. In 2022, the Titans led the NFL with 34 players on injured reserve. If anything close to those numbers happens again, the negotiations will be irrelevant.

So while it would be nice to hear the quarterback plays longer or the defense has more turnovers than the Bakers, it's actually the health that matters. The Titans are only a practice or two into the long pre-camp break, and Big Shot will be extremely disappointed right now.

Bootcamp is much more intensive than OTAs should be. With such intensity and full pads, injuries are inevitable. The injury rate in football is 100%. The best outcome for the Titans at the end of the week would be to go into camp with a healthy group of players.
