Dublin Pharmacist Reveals Important Vitamins You Should Take Heading Into Winter

A pharmacist in Dublin has distributed two vitamins to take as winter approaches.

Rebecca Barry, chief pharmacist at Lloyd's Pharmacy, has warned there will be a major resurgence of flu and other illnesses this year as life returns to normal after COVID-19. But by taking the right vitamins, you can boost your immune system in winter, he says.

He explains: "When it comes to vitamins, the most common thing that comes to mind is vitamin C, which boosts your immune system. Vitamin C deficiency is associated with weakened immunity and an increased risk of infection, including some serious diseases like ammonia. This vitamin is found in abundance. in fruits such as oranges and lemons.

"It can't be stored in our bodies, so we need it every day to maintain healthy levels. Vitamin D is also important for the health of our bones and immune system.

“A lot of people in Ireland miss winter because we don't get enough sun. We produce vitamin D when our skin is exposed to the sun, so it is recommended to take a vitamin D supplement from September to March.

“Even B vitamins are not stored in our bodies and we need them every day. They are important for our energy levels and nerve health."

Rebecca talks about seasonal depression and adds that there is something you can do about it.

He said: "Anyone suffering from seasonal depression should consider taking vitamin D as well as omega supplements. Omega supplements are essential for the health of our heart, joints and skin.

"It's also important for the health of our nerves, because our brain is full of nerves, omega supplements are very good for their function.

“Probiotics are good bacteria and play a huge role in keeping our immune system healthy and protected. Recent studies have shown that people suffering from stress, anxiety and depression lack some beneficial bacteria.
