the problem
Herbaland Natural Inc. All Herbaland gluten vitamins and supplements are sold in bulk because if used improperly, they can pose serious health risks, especially to children and pregnant women. The products were sold to various low and zero waste wholesalers in Canada .
Because the products are sold with little or no mandatory labeling, consumers lack the information they need to use gummies safely, including dosage instructions, ingredients and safety precautions. Some products may not be suitable for certain groups, such as children, pregnant women and users of other health products. All natural health products must meet Health Canada labeling requirements to protect the health and safety of consumers.
Health risks include reaching or exceeding the maximum recommended daily intake of vitamins and minerals for adults and children. Excessive consumption of these gums can cause serious health effects, ranging from minor problems such as upset stomach, nausea and vomiting, to drug interactions, severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis, and birth defects in unborn babies.
Children and pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to high levels of vitamins and minerals. Children because of their small size and developing bodies, and pregnant women because high doses of vitamin A, vitamin D or folic acid during pregnancy can have negative effects on the fetus.
Gummies can be mistaken for candy, increasing the likelihood of overeating.
Health Canada is monitoring the recall and will notify the public if any new health risks are identified.
